How to Calculate Bike On-Road Price in Bangladesh
Understand the difference between ex-showroom and on-road price in Bangladesh. All charges explained clearly.
How to Calculate On-Road Price of a Bike in Bangladesh
When you see a motorcycle's price advertised in Bangladesh, it is almost always the ex-showroom price — the price of the bike itself before additional charges. The actual amount you pay when you walk out of the showroom (the on-road price) is always higher. This guide explains every component of the on-road price so you are never surprised.
Ex-Showroom Price vs On-Road Price
Ex-Showroom Price = The price of the motorcycle at the dealer's showroom, inclusive of any taxes that are part of the retail price.
On-Road Price = Ex-Showroom Price + Registration + Insurance + Other Charges
In Bangladesh, the on-road price is typically 8-15% higher than the ex-showroom price.
Components of On-Road Price in Bangladesh
1. Ex-Showroom Price
This is the base price you see advertised. It includes the cost of the motorcycle, import duty (if applicable), VAT, and the dealer's margin.
2. BRTA Registration Fees
Motorcycle registration with Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) is mandatory. Fees vary by engine displacement:
- Up to 100cc: BDT 5,000-7,000
- 101-125cc: BDT 7,000-10,000
- 126-150cc: BDT 8,000-13,000
- 151-200cc: BDT 12,000-18,000
- Above 200cc: BDT 18,000-30,000+
3. Third-Party Insurance
Third-party motor insurance is mandatory in Bangladesh under the Motor Vehicles Act. Annual premium is typically BDT 2,000-5,000 for motorcycles depending on CC and bike value.
4. Number Plate
Reflective number plates issued by BRTA: BDT 1,500-3,000.
5. Handling/Documentation Charges
Dealer's processing and documentation fees: BDT 500-2,000. This should be transparent — ask for an itemised quote.
Example Calculation: Yamaha FZ-S V3
| Component | Amount (BDT) |
|---|---|
| Ex-Showroom Price | 1,78,000 |
| BRTA Registration | 10,000 |
| Insurance (1 year) | 3,500 |
| Number Plate | 2,000 |
| Documentation | 1,000 |
| Total On-Road Price | 1,94,500 |
City-Wise On-Road Price Variations
Registration fees and processes can vary slightly between districts. Dhaka and Chittagong typically have higher processing costs than smaller districts. Use our city-wise price feature on individual bike pages to compare on-road prices across Bangladesh's major cities.
Tips to Reduce On-Road Cost
- Compare insurance quotes from multiple insurers — premiums can vary by BDT 1,000-2,000
- During festival sales (Eid, New Year), dealers sometimes absorb registration or insurance costs — ask explicitly
- If buying multiple bikes, some dealers offer bulk discounts on charges
