Triumph Speed 400 Review: Bangladesh 2026

When Triumph Motorcycles launched the Speed 400 — manufactured in India in partnership with Bajaj Auto — it sent shockwaves through the middleweight motorcycle market. A genuine British brand motorcycle, with all the Triumph design and quality associated with it, at a price that competes directly with the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Bajaj Dominar 400? It seemed too good to be true. Having spent extensive time on the Speed 400 in Bangladesh's conditions, we can confirm: it is as good as the hype.

Engine: The Star of the Show

The 398.15cc DOHC parallel-single engine produces 40 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 37.5 Nm at 6,500 rpm. These numbers are impressive for a single-cylinder engine of this displacement. More importantly, the engine is spectacularly refined for a thumper. Vibration is minimal throughout the rev range, and the power delivery is strong across the mid-range — exactly what you want for Bangladesh's mixed road conditions.

The engine pulls strongly from 3,000 rpm all the way to its 9,500 rpm redline. In real-world riding in Bangladesh, most overtaking and acceleration happens between 3,500-6,000 rpm — a range where the Speed 400 is relentlessly confident.

Chassis, Handling and Brakes

The Speed 400 uses a tubular steel diamond frame that feels appropriately stiff without being harshly responsive. The 43mm telescopic front fork and rear monoshock are well-tuned for Bangladesh's roads — they absorb rough patches comfortably while still delivering engaging feedback when roads allow spirited riding. Dual-channel Brembo-branded brakes with cornering ABS provide excellent stopping power and confidence.

Design

The Speed 400 looks like a proper Triumph. The round headlamp, teardrop tank, and clean, minimal bodywork reference the Bonneville Speed Twin's DNA in a compact, modern package. It is genuinely beautiful — arguably the best-looking motorcycle at this price point in Bangladesh. Fit and finish are excellent for the price, with properly chromed parts and quality switchgear.

Mileage and Running Costs

Real-world mileage in Bangladesh: 30-35 kmpl in city, 38-42 kmpl on highways. For a 40 bhp motorcycle, this is acceptable. Monthly running cost at 50 km/day commuting: approximately BDT 5,500-7,000.

Service costs are managed through the Bajaj dealer network in Bangladesh. Parts availability and service quality is comparable to other premium Indian brands. Annual maintenance cost estimate: BDT 12,000-18,000.

Price in Bangladesh 2026

Triumph Speed 400: BDT 4,50,000-5,20,000 depending on colour and dealer.

Verdict

The Triumph Speed 400 is arguably the best value motorcycle in Bangladesh in 2026. It offers genuine Triumph pedigree, an exceptional engine, beautiful design, and capable chassis at a price that seems impossible for the brand. If you have BDT 4.5-5 lakh to spend on a motorcycle in Bangladesh in 2026, the Speed 400 should be your first test ride. Rating: 9/10.
